Job Description

Job Description Summary: The Safety & Risk Specialist is responsible for coordinating safety and risk management activities, including assisting with the development and improvement of organizational processes for creating a safe and healthy work environment where accidental losses are prevented, or their effects are minimized, at a reasonable cost.

Position is hybrid (In Office/Remote)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Prompt and regular attendance at work
* Identifies, analyzes and reports risks to the productivity and profitability of the organization including safety performance and regulatory compliance related to safety, health, environmental and risk management issues
* Regularly visit operational locations and conduct ride-a-longs to observe conditions and identify needs to improve the safety of the operation
* Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and communication within the organization at all levels and provide counsel to management on safety and risk management performance
* Ensures the effective implementation, development and enhancement of the Safety and Risk Management program
* Writes and delivers presentations to management or government officials (e.g. OSHA) regarding safety, health and risk management as needed
* Demonstrates management style that is team oriented pro-active and customer service driven in accord with divisional team philosophy
* Is a resource for area on all safety, health, environmental and risk management matters
* Works closely with Corporate head of Safety and Risk to implement and monitor Region and Corporate-wide safety, health, environmental and risk management initiatives
* Consults with General Manager and Director of Human Resources on matters that may significantly impact the Division as a whole
* Supports Divisional management in the implementation of safety and risk solutions to enhance operational performance
* Implements and ensures the completion or relevant safety and health training for all Regional employees
* Ensures posting of the OSHA 300A log
* Ensures the provision of employee health services regarding immunizations, testing and post exposure follow-up
* Actively involved in leadership of local Safety Committees
* Perform all other duties as assigned

Operational

* Serve as the Operations "Designated Officer" to ensure compliance with various Safety and Risk Management regulatory requirements
* Act as key contact for Safety and Risk to assist in various tasks including monthly National Safety Initiative distribution and other identified projects
* Attend monthly regional safety and risk management conference call to discuss trends, problem areas and share best practices. Communicate this information to local management team
* Develop regular schedule of meetings with employee representatives to address safety issues, make recommendations on purchases of PPE and other safety equipment. Review current practices, correct deficiencies and improve general performance
* Serve as designated contact, and coordinate schedules and activities of employees performing transitional duty due to work-related injuries. Ensure employee injury paperwork is complete and forwarded to Regional Risk Management in a timely fashion


NONESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* High School diploma or equivalent.
* One (1) to three (3) years of full time (>30 hours per week) EMS operations experience with time spent as operations safety or loss control coordinator

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, Occupational Safety and health, or Industrial safety from an accredited four-year college or University is preferred
* Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA and ADA
* Skilled in the use of personal computers and associated word-processing, spreadsheet and database software
* Ability to write reports and business correspondence
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
* Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and employees
* Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
* Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
* Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
