Careers in sales, consulting, business development, B2B, and other roles with goals and relationship building have found great success working in fundraising. Cold calling, face-to-face business/customer interactions, and navigating a sales cycle (also known as a gift cycle in the fundraising world) are excellent transferrable skills!
What does success look like in this position?
A day in the life of a Development Officer could be:
Make qualification calls/visits, cultivate, solicit, and provide recognition and steward appropriately major gifts for the College of Education, with an emphasis on gifts of $50,000. Meet with development and Foundation colleagues to discuss major donor prospects, strategy, and solicitation. Complete and file reports of all contacts/proposals in a timely manner.
