Overview

We are seeking Distribution Engineer I (PLS-CADD Line Design) to support our growing Electrical Distribution Engineering & Design practice. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering; with an interest in building a career in the electric utility industry.

This position utilizes the PLS-CADD software suite for the routing, design, and construction of high voltage electrical distribution overhead line design projects (4kV to 12kV). There will also be opportunities to support electrical transmission projects with voltage ratings up to 500kV. Candidate will be involved in all facets of T&D line routing and design, working alongside experienced civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers and designers.

This is also a great opportunity to collaborate with NV5's extensive in-house support teams across survey, UAV, geotechnical, environmental, permitting, and construction quality assurance (CQA). There may also be opportunities to contribute to other aspects of line design projects, including construction support, client development, and project management.

Responsibilities
    Routing and design of transmission and distribution lines utilizing the Power Line Systems software suite including PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.
  • Structure analysis and reports, developing design criteria and specifications, creating construction packages including bill of materials, project cost estimating, and quality control reviews.
  • Will prepare drawings and documentation for construction of overhead distribution lines.
  • Providing leadership, guidance, and instruction to less-experienced staff members.
  • Meets and corresponds with clients or outside personnel, as directed.
  • Complies with company and client safety standards and requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program, or equivalent experience.
  • 0-3 years of related experience with electric utility transmission or distribution engineering
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in obtaining E.I.T. and P.E. certifications in the next 5 years.

The pay range for this California position is $68,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
