Job Title: Associate Vice President for Development Operations
Department: Resource Development
Reports To: Executive Vice President of Resource Development
Jobs Supervised: Grant Managr, Database Administrator, Development Associate
Exempt: Yes

Purpose: The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Development Operations is responsible for providing leadership for various fundraising and operations functions of the Resource Development department. The AVP reports to the Vice President (VP) of Development to achieve department goals. This includes developing frameworks and plans for securing resources from foundations and government partners. Additionally, the AVP ensures effective operations for the mechanisms of the department that ensure effective fundraising practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ASSOCIATED TASKS

  • Manage all functions of the Institutional Giving program.
  1. Create an annual plan identifying specific goals, objectives, budget, and overall strategy for retention and growth.
  2. Monitor, and in some cases draft and edit, the creation and timely submission of proposals.
  3. Develop and maintain effective relationships with appropriate institution personnel through regular written and telephone communications and site visits.
  4. Implement recognition and stewardship plans that advance institutional relationships and align with broader organizational stewardship efforts.
  5. Ensure maintenance of records for all prospective, current, and former funders within The Raiser's Edge, as well as associated documents and reports within other organizational repositories.
  6. When necessary, manage relationships with contracted grant writers to meet the demands of the department.

  • Provide leadership within the Resource Development department and organization
    1. Effectively supervise direct reports, utilizing clear goals, leading to the overall success of the organization.
    2. Collaborate with the Vice President and their team to meet the goals of the department and to engage donors according to broadly accepted best practices
    3. Engage opportunities in the pursuit of institutional support in CBC's other markets.
    4. Engage the VP, EVP, and CEO as necessary in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding institutional donors.
    5. Collaborate with the VP, EVP, and CEO in providing leadership for special campaigns and fundraising initiatives
    6. Collaborate with other departments to raise funds for clearly defined business needs.
    7. Collaborate with other departments to achieve the objectives of the organization.
    8. At the direction of the EVP, lead clearly defined initiatives or projects
  • Lead effective development operations
    1. Monitor the use of The Raiser's Edge to meet all department and organization needs for the tracking and acknowledgment of gifts, utilization of those gifts consistent with donor intent, reporting and visualization of data to maximize fundraising effectiveness, and to respond to other identified needs.
    2. Ensure effective practices for the receipt and acknowledgement of gifts
    3. Develop and manage effective prospect research function
    4. Ensuring the effective integration of data sharing to support financial management and reporting, as well as the utilization of program and operational data to support effective donor cultivation and stewardship.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five years' experience in fund raising, with an emphasis on institutional or organizational donors.
  • Knowledge of institutional funding systems, policies and service networks.
  • Knowledge of organizational requirements and best practices in the receipt and recognition of charitable gifts.
  • Ability to articulate CommonBond's needs through written proposals, including the ability to edit and proofread the work of others.
  • Attention to detail, and an ability to create and manage cross-functional processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, professional attitude, and a proven ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office software, and experience with donor management software - preferably The Raiser's Edge.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to type data into a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Ability to complete filing.
