About the Job

The School of Public Health division of Biostatistics and Health Data Science is seeking applications for a full-time IT Developer Pro 3 position (9703IM IT Pro 3-IT Multidiscipline) to join the Coordinating Centers for Biometric Research (CCBR).

Starting Salary Range: $78-103K annually, dependent upon the selected candidate's relevant qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

This position will have a hybrid work option with a preferred 3 days onsite during core business hours. Primary Key Responsibilities for the first 6-12 months:

Website Development and Maintenance - 90%

  • Work with graphic designers to develop visually appealing and easy to use websites.
  • Design and develop web-based applications in support of clinical research. For example, development of randomization applications that are hosted on the study website for randomized clinical trials.
  • Develop templates for websites with features that enable the conduct of clinical research studies to allow for rapid deployment.

Provide training to other staff on system usage - 10%

Primary Key Responsibilities afterward:

Website Development and Maintenance - 50%

  • Work with graphic designers to develop visually appealing and easy to use websites.
  • Design and develop web-based applications in support of clinical research. For example, development of randomization applications that are hosted on the study website for randomized clinical trials.
  • Develop templates for websites with features that enable the conduct of clinical research studies to allow for rapid deployment.

Software Development - 20%

  • Design and develop additional tools to complement the existing custom data management system
  • Design and develop web-based applications in support of clinical research. For example, development of randomization applications for randomized clinical trials.

Data Management Support - 20%

  • Work with teams of biostatisticians and data managers to understand the need for new functionality and develop system requirements for such functionality
  • Participate in the design and implementation of data collection systems. It is essential that these systems maintain accurate data that can be immediately accessed for ongoing clinical trials of experimental treatments where participant safety is paramount.
  • Collaborate with biostatisticians, laboratory personnel, regulatory staff, and clinical researchers on high profile public health research with a strong emphasis on clinical trials.

Provide training to other staff on system usage - 10%

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS plus at least four years of experience with JavaScript and Node.js or similar frameworks, and front-end design concepts, or master's degree plus at least two years of experience in these areas
  • Similar level of training and experience in the areas of database programming, back-end development, and software design
  • Advanced programming skills, particularly with Python
  • Working knowledge of Linux and the terminal
  • Experience with Oracle, MySQL or equivalent Relational Database Management Systems
  • Experience with git or similar version control systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of R, perl, and Pandas or equivalent tabular programming
  • Deployment management and practice of software testing cycle skills
About the Department

The Coordinating Centers for Biometric Research (CCBR) in the Division of Biostatistics and Health Data Science in the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota has an experienced team that carries out large scale international clinical trials and observational studies funded by the National Institutes of Health. Ongoing research includes trials to prevent and treat infectious (HIV/AIDS, influenza, Ebola, and COVID-19) disease and chronic (cardiovascular disease and lung) disease. The annual budget for this work exceeds $50 million; the staff of the CCBR, established 1985, includes approximately 65 faculty, staff, and graduate students, including senior data management and systems design professional and biostatisticians.
