This is a talented group of project/program management professionalssupporting Employee Benefits Solutions. Our team'smission is to deliver strategic value and outcomes by fostering collaboration, enabling transparency, and facilitating towards objectivesto achieve a balanced portfolio for our customer groups.This includes the development and implementation of strategic products, services, and experience related solutions.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Leads large and complex projects and programs.

  • Consults with Project Sponsor and/or senior leadership to identify and implement goals, shape scope and plans, secure resources, anticipate and mitigate risks, address significant modifications as necessary.
  • Plans, directs, and/or leads workstreams, deliverables, and resources throughout the life cycle to achieve business outcomes. Includes managing contingencies and interdependencies across the project or program.
  • Builds strong relationships with stakeholders and partners to help navigate through complex problems, decisions, and related implications.
  • Identifies and manages communications (including change management efforts), governance and stakeholder engagement.
  • Leads, influences, evaluates, and manages financials, resources, and benefits.
  • Drives the project/program to completion, ensuring results and outcomes meet the needs and steps are in place for benefits to be realized.

Provides mentoring and leadership within the Strategic Initiatives team to optimize team results and project flexibility, efficiency, andconsistency.

  • Maintains an understanding of market and enterprise strategies to promote projects and best practices.
  • Mentors less experienced project managers or contract resources.
  • Assists Leader with ensuring quality and consistency in project delivery.

Provides portfolio management support as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years project/program management experience.
  • Advanced problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent management, organizational, planning and prioritization skills to organize and manage large, complex projects and programswith outcome driven deliverables.
  • Excellent finesse, diplomacy, leadership, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with experience working independently and in team-oriented, collaborative environments.
  • In depth knowledge of project and program management best practices, and an understanding of software development practices (e.g., agile, waterfall, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project/program/portfolio management experience within financial services and/or a highly matrixed organizational structure.
  • Experience developing and driving change management plans.


Securian Financial believes in hybrid work as an integral part of our culture. Associates get the benefit of working both virtually and in our offices. If you're in a commutable distance (90 minutes) you'll join us 2-3 days each week in our offices to collaborate and build relationships. Our policy allows flexibility for the reality of business and personal schedules. When working in our offices at least two days per week isn't feasible (vacations, illness, travel, etc.), an eight day per month standard is an option.

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Ability to utilize the keyboard, computer and/or mouse for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week.
  • Ability to utilize the phone and/or virtual meeting platform for 1-4 hours per day.
