Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience is required plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus 6 years of relevant experience.

GDMS has an opening for a well experienced Sr Advanced LINUX Systems Administration Specialist to join our team. The Sys-Admin will work with collaborative teams to ensure GDMS and client technologies are functioning as efficiently as possible.

The Sys-Admin role provides information system solutions, and technical support to GDMS and our clients. Responsibilities include personal computer and client server support, systems administration of Linux based physical or virtual servers, applications support, storage support and system security. In this capacity, the successful candidate will:

  • Perform administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Oracle Linux, versions 7/8/9
  • Azure Cloud experience. Confirmed with AZ104 class or other Azure type certification.
  • Troubleshoot problems with Linux based systems.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical hardware including Dell and Nutanix servers, both rack mounted and blade.
  • Scripting ability in a Linux shell to automate repetitive processes, Ansible good to have.
  • Work with customers to identify, isolate, and resolve problems with Linux servers.
  • Perform administration of virtualized Linux servers via VMware and/or Nutanix Acropolis web client.
  • Perform analysis and logging of Host Intrusion Detection Systems tools like Splunk alerts.
  • Monitor system and vendor management performance using tools like Grafana.
  • Perform periodic security patching of servers based on recommended patch sets using RHEL Satellite tools.
  • Work with security compliance tools on Linux OS and support security remediation.
  • Solid understanding of how to configure, maintain and validate the Linux environment so that it is fully compliant to pass cyber security audits.
  • Demonstrated expertise configuring, managing, and troubleshooting variations of DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, Networking
  • Expertise with data center level backup systems & software, data storage solutions and legacy data center hardware/software solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills within the Linux OS as well as network and storage.
  • Ability to work individually or collaboratively as part of a high-performance work team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Skilled at clear and concise written and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge and experience in the ITIL service framework a plus.
  • Familiar with Agile tools and methodology.

    • AWS Cloud support
    • ClearCase
    • Centrify/Delinea
  • Linux kernel understanding to analyze cpu and memory performance

Candidates must demonstrate passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of technological systems and programming, and the ability to further advance General Dynamics Mission Systems technology. This advanced position could require being a team lead or leader of projects and level of efforts.

NOTE: This position is ON-SITE in Scottsdale, AZ with some flexibility, but you must report to the office 3+ days/week.


Target salary range: USD $120,698.80/Yr. - USD $130,599.85/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
