New Flyer is recruiting a Manufacturing Engineer - Coatings Process Manager for an exciting opportunity in our NFI Infrastructure Solutions group, which provides planning, engineering and construction services for fleet electrification projects in North America.

Position Summary
This position will provide leadership, technical guidance and training/mentorship to ensure staff competency in coatings activities. This role will be responsible for the coatings' standards, methods and procedures used by all employees in complying with all applicable manufactures, and customer recommendations. They will be the customer liaison as required to close the loop on production issues. The Coatings Process Manager will promote major interface relationships to enhance the company's quality reputation and will implement programs that will result in the reduction of costs related to detection through the collection of data and analysis and problem-solving techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, mentor/manage, and support employee annual reviews for coating-related Manufacturing Engineering resources.
  • Maintain and provide support for department budgets as assigned.
  • Direct the establishment of appropriate process workflows for coating-related activities.
  • Provide direction toward appropriate preventive maintenance & repair of all coating-related equipment.
  • Manage manufacturing engineering support and services to New Flyer coating personnel and related processes.
  • Lead, specify, justify, implement, and provide ongoing support for new and existing coating process and related equipment/tooling for all of New Flyers Production facilities as assigned.
  • Create standard/safe work instructions (SWI's) and train the necessary personnel on those standards.
  • Ensure policies and processes are established and followed to ensure goals and objectives for all regulatory and legal requirements are met including organizational Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety programs.
  • Ensures compliance with New Flyer's Best Practices, Safety Initiatives, applicable laws/rules in the countries, states and communities in which New Flyer operates.
  • Effectively communicate necessary information and KPI status updates to relevant leadership.
  • Maintain professional relationships with Customers and effectively manage coatings-related issues.
  • Produce required reporting for both internal and customer needs as required
  • Actively participate in the ongoing business activities of the Customer as it relates to site goals and initiatives.
  • Adjust processes and resources to meet changing Customer requirements as directed by the Plant Managers.
  • Focus on resource utilization, performance improvement, measurement and audit.
  • Lead and implement lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, value stream mapping, set-up reduction etc.)
  • Promote an environment of continuous improvement and team work.
  • Conduct process observations to ensure that assigned time standards are fair and consistent.
  • Work with various vendors to research and test new technologies toward improved quality, productivity, and troubleshooting support.
  • Participate in internal and outside supplier certifications and audits, as required.
  • Support OPEX, through continuous improvement activities.
  • Must continuously follow New Flyer safety policies and procedures on the job.
Required Experience and Skills
  • Previous experience with Coatings/Prep Materials and Processes
  • Formal education or experience in Engineering (Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering) (Degree Preferred)
  • Lean Certification or applicable equivalent work experience
  • Skills to complete various paint/coating prep, application, and testing of equipment.
  • Experience with Auto CAD or UniGraphics
  • Knowledge/Experience with Microsoft Office, Windows XP and Windows 7
MUST BE WILLING TO TRAVEL AN AVERAGE OF LESS THAN 35%

The selected candidate for this position must work onsite at an NFI Group, Inc. office, with the flexibility to choose a location from any NFI Group, Inc. Company Office in the US or Canada
