Summary:
The Mill Operator is responsible for all phases of incoming commodities, equipment operation and maintenance.Responsibilities include calculating dockage, conducting tests to determine commodity quality, operating the equipment that cleans and moves the grain, and loading/unloading trucks.
Measures of Success
  • Operates the mill including unloading, loading, storing, cleaning, and processing of product for production and shipment.
  • Operates all machinery including forklifts and equipment used in the mill such as sieves, augers, conveyors, stick machines, and gravities.
  • Tests samples, calculates dockage, operates bulk scale, as well as analyzes the percentage of ingredients in samples for product accuracy.
  • Visually and tactually inspects products from incoming shipments to determine cleaning requirements and verifies product compliance to plant standards.
  • Monitors, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs mill equipment.
  • Operates the mill in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Keeps mill area clean, safe, and up to code.
  • Climbs grain legs and/or bins to troubleshoot problems and to perform maintenance.
  • Occasionally works in high and/or confined spaces.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory.
  • Performs other production duties in addition to operating the mill.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to sit, stand and /or walk for up to 3 hours at a time in an 8-hour day; ability to frequently grasp, push, pull, bend and climb.

Ideal Candidate Attributes:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1+ years previous feed/grain mill operation experience, or similar relevant experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • General mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of production and plant processes.
  • Meets attendance requirements and is on time.
Individuals with some experience and/or knowledge can be trained on the job to perform each essential duty successfully.
Work Environment:
  • Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, product irritants, airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Occasionally required to work in high places and confined spaces.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. But higher levels of noise are marked by signs.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
  • First shift: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am 5:00 pm
  • Occasional overtime.
  • $21+ Final wage offer is based on skills and experience.
