Wages & Benefits

$18.00 - $20.00 per hour; paid Earned Sick and Safe Time; participation in the agency-sponsored retirement savings plan.

Schedule

This position requires work at FamilyWise centers in Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as remotely at community locations (such as a parent's home, community center, library, etc.). Evening and weekend availability is required. A minimum of 6 scheduled hours per week is required. At least one weekend on-call shift per month is required.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as FamilyWise's Supervised Parenting Monitor provides an opportunity to foster the development of healthy family relationships by facilitating visitations and providing parent education curriculum to the families served. The Monitor must document the family visits which are held in a center, community setting or the parents' place of residence, as identified by court order or case plan. Other responsibilities will include the following:

Direct Service

  • Identifying family strengths, needs and natural supports.
  • Screening families upon arrival to their parenting time.
  • Managing family conflict by supporting parent's problem-solving skills while ensuring child safety.
  • Using approved parent education curriculum(s) to support positive parenting.
  • Providing feedback to the parents regarding age-appropriate boundary setting, discipline, empathy, family roles, and nurturing skills.
  • Ensuring parental compliance with agency policies and court orders. Redirecting parents as needed during visits.
  • Identifying and supporting parenting strengths.

Documentation

  • Documenting and recalling facts in a clear and concise manner using professional writing skills.
  • Using technology for accurate documentation and data entry into agency database.
  • Sharing documentation in a timely manner with social workers, guardians ad litem and other court personnel as directed.

Safety and Cleaning

  • Cleaning surfaces after every visit using safe and effective cleaning supplies or ensuring parent completes these tasks.
  • Mopping, vacuuming, sweeping work areas at the end of every visit or ensuring parent completes these tasks.
  • Identifying hazards in the environment and bringing to the attention of the Coordinator and/or Manager.

Who You Are

  • You have a minimum of 500 hours of experience working in the Human Services field; experience working with children and families is preferred.
  • You hold a bachelor's degree in the Human Services field, or are in the process of obtaining a degree in the Human Services field or a related field such as psychology, child development, social work, or family social science.
  • You have experience working with court systems (criminal, juvenile and family), domestic violence, mental health and substance abuse (highly desired).
  • You are fluent in a language other than English such as Spanish, Somali or Arabic (highly desirable).
  • You can effectively train and supervise interns and new staff.
  • You possess excellent professional writing and oral communication skills.
  • You utilize established curriculums to deliver parent education and support to parents.
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • You have strong problem solving and conflict resolutions skills.
  • You have previous knowledge of child development and effective parenting skills.
  • You can work evenings and weekends on short notice.
  • You are able to travel to client sites within 15-mile radius of the office.
  • You are willing to work at both our Minneapolis and St. Paul locations.
  • You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet FamilyWise's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit.
