We are seeking a Downstream Processing Ops Lead responsible for expanding our lab-scale recovery capabilities to remove or recover micro-organisms and bioactives from broth generated at our Fermentation Research Facility in Wilmington, DE.

Responsibilities:


The primary role of this position in our development lab is the organization, operation, and execution of lab scale experiments to support manufacturing scale operations. Daily tasks will include (communication with engineers utilizing the facility, running equipment and near-line analytical instruments, scheduling equipment and recovery personnel, troubleshooting equipment and operational issues).


The Downstream Team works M-F between two shifts (morning or afternoon) alongside the 24/7 Fermentation Facility.


Continuous operations and shift work require a successful candidate to communicate well and effectively both face to face, and across electronic tools. We utilize video conferencing to get real time input from engineers, and cloud based paperless documentation for both experimental records and cross shift communication.


Safety isn't just a goal, it's a culture. The successful candidate will be experienced with generating SOPs, performing safety evaluations of new processes and equipment, effectively utilizing personal protective equipment, able to lift 50lbs, and pass a respirator fit test (pulmonary function test).

Job Requirements


Qualifications/Skills:

Education:

  • BS/BA degree in Biology, Chemistry, or other physical science discipline with experience in lab or biomanufacturing settings.
  • Associates degree w/ 3+ years of experience in lab or manufacturing settings.
  • HS Diploma w/5+ years lab/manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams across multiple projects.
  • Leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Willing and able to make, lift, and deliver maximal 50 lbs of materials to the facility and other labs with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Safety compliance: Strict adherence to safety protocols and guidelines is critical.


Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Experience in operating filtration units, centrifuges, filter presses and UF (ultrafiltration) systems in a cGMP or pharmaceutical setting.
  • Cell physiology knowledge and strain typing for identification and contamination monitoring preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications
  • Awareness of working with chemicals and hazardous operations
  • Mechanically inclined
