Job Summary:
Responsible for the implementation and coordination of policies and programs covering human resource activities such as compensation, benefits, organizational development, staffing, diversity, and employee relations. Works with the upper management to develop strategic objectives related to our people-first culture and minimize risks.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field.

Must possess knowledge of employment and labor law, human resources processes & employee relations practices normally acquired through completion of a four-year degree in HR management or a business discipline and five or more years of HR generalist experience.

Proficient math and computer skills.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (preferred requirements i.e. certifications, software use, etc.)

Masters degree in Human Resources or other advanced degree in related field.

Ten or more years experience in Human Resources

HR accreditation such as PHR or SPHR or SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.

Excellent communication skills.



Knowledge of conducting an investigation, research and fact-finding practices.

Duties & Responsibilities
*Partners with upper management to plan, develop, implement and administer various human resources plans, policies, practices and procedures for all company personnel. This includes developing and planning new strategies and tactics in order to keep pace with changes affecting the HR fields throughout the industry.

*Works with management to identify and prioritize recruitment needs and develops/maintains recruitment processes and records DEI outreach efforts. Seeks out and participates in school and community events to attract students and others to Knife River to build a robust candidate pipeline, including internal candidates.

Participate in developing/enhancing existing internal training programs, developing new programs, streamlining orientation and other initiatives for retention and employee development. Review trends/data and makes recommendations to reduce absenteeism and turnover.

Fulfills EEO Officer duties, including compliance reviews and accountability for Affirmative Action Plan.

*Serves as a strategic business partner and provides leadership in all aspects of employee relations, value added HR services and the strategic planning process.

*Facilitates with employees, supervisors and department heads to settle work-related conflicts through advice and recommendation, while maintaining an attitude and philosophy consistent with company standards.

*Administers company policies as they relate to all employees. Oversees the administration of disciplinary action according to company policy to ensure its fair, equal and consistent application.

*Formulates total compensation strategies and programs that will keep the company competitive. Manages compensation approaches such as job evaluation, salary grades, incentive eligibility, etc., assuring they are consistently applied throughout the company.

*Manages benefit programs and oversees staffing and recruitment efforts as well as government reporting requirements.

*Oversees or provides assistance to labor relations activities and initiatives. Ensures that operating company practices conform legally to labor agreements.

*Manages and provides support for employee activities including new hires, benefits, performance reviews, training, terminations & transfers.

Possess extensive knowledge of all aspects of total rewards concepts, compensation practices, and knowledge of state and federal regulations with proven records of demonstrating project management skills.

*Must maintain confidentiality and ethics to the highest degree.

*Demonstrate excellent analytical abilities and team building skills.

Interact with other departments (payroll, safety, environmental, equipment, etc.) and managers/supervisors to establish and attain goals.

*Facilitate the due diligence review process and possible integration in relation to all HR related programs.

*Ability to measure investment returns.

*Leads the investigations and resolution of disputes/claims to ensure fairness and due process are delivered when employee complaints surface.

*Leads the HR staff.

Travel may be required with possible overnight stays.

Perform other duties as assigned.
