Job Description

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for a Quality Engineer at our Butler Works operation. This position is part of the Product Metallurgy team. You will develop expertise in our advanced electrical steels from melt through final customer application. As a Quality Engineer, you will interact daily with Operations, Process Control, and other members of the Cleveland-Cliffs team to produce and improve our high-quality electrical steel products. The ideal candidate is self-motivated with a strong background in both metallurgy and data analysis. Prior steel experience is a plus but not required.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Daily monitoring of final product properties and process variables with a focus on improving practices and product performance.
  • Evaluate and disposition quality deviations based on product and process metrics.
  • Provide metallurgical and technical support for product and process improvement through data analysis, problem-solving, expertise in the area of responsibility, metallurgical concepts, and knowledge of customer operations and markets.
  • Possess the ability to work effectively within a team environment, utilizing clear and effective communication.
  • Lead and provide support for projects and multidisciplinary teams to support continuous improvement and reduction of waste.
  • Deliver technical solutions to internal and external customers by understanding manufacturing and product capability.
  • Work closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, planning, research, and other technical resources to drive results.
  • Communicate with upstream and downstream operations to improve practices and performance.
  • Various other duties, as needed, to support the business.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Metallurgy or Material Science.
  • Proven communication (verbal and written), analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in both an office and mill environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in materials manufacturing, preferably metals.
  • Demonstrated success in defining and resolving problems.
  • Strong background in data analysis and statistics.
