Primary Responsibilities

The position opening for a Structural Engineer offers exciting opportunities in the field of Power Generation and Renewables.

As an HDR Structural Engineer your responsibilities may include:

  • Review structural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines
  • Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials and their respective sizes, and complete necessary calculations
  • Independently coordinate the work of the structural design team through the design development and contract document phases of a project
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
  • Conduct design development and contract document work sessions at project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines
  • Take responsibility for coordinating workload through design development and construction document phases to complete the documents on schedule
  • Coordinate and assist with affected disciplines, with any addendum, requests for information, change proposal requests and change orders, and incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents
  • Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with Structural emphasis, from ABET accredited university, and interest in continuing education.
  • Minimum of 5 years structural engineering experience, preferably in power and energy projects or heavy industrial facilities.
  • Professional Engineering License in home state.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and structural analysis software such as RISA, STAAD, and LPile.
  • Familiarity with CADD software such as AutoCAD or Microstation a plus.
  • Understanding of the finite element method and how to perform FEA.
  • Must be capable of working in a team-oriented environment and possess analytical and organizational skills to work on multiple projects at one time.
  • Having both strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate your work with other disciplines and CAD designers either in person or remotely from another HDR office.
  • Additional skills such as attention to accuracy, detail orientated, self-directed learning, meeting deadlines, and multi-tasking are required.
  • The willingness to try new things and be a forward thinking, innovative engineer.
  • An attitude and commitment to be an active participant in our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science (MS) Degree in Structural Engineering or Structural emphasis
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in multiple states
  • Demonstrated knowledge of how software packages related to structural engineering work
  • Working understanding of deep foundations and geotechnical applications for foundation design
