Job Description

It's an exciting time to join International Flavors & Fragrances' (IFF) Operations team located in Union Beach, NJ. As the FCP Operator, you will operate chemical reactors, distillation units, and other related equipment for both small- and large-scale production of Flavor Molecules/Processes.

You will spend your time...

  • Following procedures to operate stills, reactors, lab equipment and auxiliary process equipment. Monitoring processes, log data, and adjusting process conditions as specified. Training to operate computer-controlled equipment. Start-up operate and monitor utilities in the pilot plant.
  • The initial training protocol will consist of working side by side with one of our current operators during first shift (8am - 4pm). This training will last until the individual can demonstrate an unsupervised level of expertise. Upon completion of training, the individual will be assigned to third shift (12am - 8am).
  • Handling unexpected situations on the off shift after training is complete. Using best judgment to identify and resolve problems, reporting all operating problems to supervisor or working foreperson.
  • Setting up laboratory and pilot plant equipment for operation. Checking equipment for cleanliness and operability.
  • Material and chemical handling duties: moving chemical drums within the pilot plant, fill and bulk containers, loading, charging, and feeding into reactors, taking, analyzing, and interpreting process samples by Gas chromatography. Checking and verifying raw materials.
  • Taking responsibility for maintaining the equipment and general housekeeping.
  • Conducting all operations safely; practice safe working habits. Following strict safety and regulatory procedures at all times. Using appropriate personal protective equipment as specified. Monitoring required equipment to operate within regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintaining GMP environment in the lab and pilot plant.
Job Requirements

Required Skills

  • 3+ years of experience as a Chemical Operator or as a Laboratory Technician
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Ability to push, pull, or shove 500-lbs with assistance from available mechanical devices.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to interact with computer controls and computer-controlled equipment.
  • Available to work 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift as needed to cover special situations


  • Experience or knowledge in handling chemicals.
  • Experience with and knowledge of laboratory, pilot plant or plant chemical operations.
  • Involvement with a Safety, Fire Brigade, or other Emergency Response Team.
