      Leidos has an exciting opportunity to join our Team supporting safe operations at the NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, California. In this role your expertise will be essential to support safety activities in support of NASA Ames Research Center operations. NASA’s test facilities contain complex process, mechanical, and electrical subsystems with varying degrees of hazards. The Safety Engineer will act as a resource to Center operations and work closely with NASA staff, facility engineers, and system operators. The Safety Engineer must have broad industrial safety experience as well as a strong technical background. The position works under general supervision of the Lead Safety Engineer and is expected to apply fundamental engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.

      Roles & Responsibilities

      • Provide program development, implementation, coordination and training for safety programs, such as electrical safety (including high voltage electrical power safety), lock-out/tag-out, heavy equipment safety, fall protection, facility safety, ergonomics, machine guarding, housekeeping, office safety, explosives and propellants safety, mishap reporting, safety postings/signs, safety committee management, and other types of typical safety programs.

      • Interact with NASA personnel to ensure a consistent understanding of regulatory and procedure requirements.

      • Support and provide direction to NASA’s safety program.

      • Adapt to the situation at hand and be able to bring problem situations under control.

      • Take action to create an opportunity by proactively looking ahead.

      • Effectively manage multiple tasks, but also relinquish tasks that can be performed by support staff or less-seasoned professionals.

      • Interpret and communicate regulatory requirements, effectively identifying solutions where rule ambiguity exists.

      Basic Qualifications

      • Direct experience working onsite at NASA Ames

      • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 4 years' experience. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

      • Excellent oral and above average written communications skills; Ability to develop excellent working relationships with customers, peers, and management; Ability to utilize Microsoft Office to prepare reports, presentations, and charts

      • Knowledge and use of computer skills and typical business software (i.e., word processing and spreadsheets)

      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Certified Safety Professional

      • Experience working at NASA centers

      • Knowledge of NASA’s safety program policies and procedures
