The ICD-10 Project Manager / Coding & Documentation Manager will work with PPMNS's Clinical Operations and Revenue Management staff in St. Paul to assess their readiness and assist in preparation and implementation for the conversion to ICD-10. Post-go-live, this position will ensure continuous compliance with federal and state laws and regulations governing coding and documentation; take the lead in training; and serve as a resource and liaison for clinical and billing state for all coding and documentation topics, issues, and questions.

Work Hours: Full time approximately 40 hours/week. Hours will generally include Monday through Friday, however will require a flexible schedule to meet end-users customer demands and implementation support which may include occasional weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities

ICD-10

  • Monitor the program/project from initiation through delivery and create standards and tools to ensure that PPMNS will be ICD-10 compliant
  • Manage the Work Breakdown Structure between clinicians, central billing and IT staff to ensure a smooth transition by October 2014 followed by post-go-live monitoring.
  • Lead efforts in defining requirements and overseeing the ICD-10 Gap Analysis, and managing clinical, central billing, and IT staff to establish and meet targeted milestones.
  • Track risks associated with the implementation of system solutions required for the successful implementation of the ICD-10 project.

General Coding & Documentation

  • Prepare and update policies and procedures for coding and documentation including internal coding guidelines; provide ongoing training and in-service programs for new and existing clinical staff to support affiliate compliance.
  • Work with clinical and billing staff and other departments to resolve coding, documentation, and reimbursement issues.
  • Conduct database queries and reports to audit coding and documentation by new clinicians and perform and other audits as required to ensure continuous compliance.
  • Advise compliance, finance, and clinical leadership of changes and developments of HIMS and CCHS and assess the impact of innovations and changes in coding policies and procedures on PPMNS operations and reimbursement.

Required Qualifications

  • Medical coding certification from AAPC or similar professional association
  • Minimum of five years coding management experience
  • Demonstrated experience with clinical documentation requirements for ICD-9 and strong understanding of ICD-10 changes
  • Understanding of change management concepts, process/workflow documentation, education, and learning validation, and a strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Project management certification
  • Detailed project manager experience for healthcare coding/documentation
