Job Function:

Inspects, repairs, and adjusts gauges, measuring instruments, and testing equipment for conformance to blueprint specifications.

  • Verifies accuracy of manual gauges and measuring instruments using master gauges (rings) or master parts.
    • Obtains master rings or parts from gauge room.
  • Examines gauges or measuring instruments for wear or adjustment; inspects parts for wear, warping or other defects.
  • Completes calibration in gauge room.
  • Supplies manufacturing/operations with gauges, master rings or tooling.
    • Uses hand cart to transport gauges, master rings or parts.
  • Repairs, maintains, calibrates, and sets up automatic gauges in accordance with preventive maintenance schedule and/or production schedules.
    • Realigns and/or replaces worn parts, recording pre- and post-work condition of equipment.
    • Cleans and lubricates equipment.
    • Trouble shoots electronic boards from automatic gauges, using ohmmeters to check voltage and continuity and hand-held soldering tool when necessary for repair.
    • Set up, repair, calibration and maintenance is performed throughout manufacturing.
  • Conducts capability studies on automatic gauges in accordance with preventive maintenance schedule.
    • Sets up, loads, operates and monitors production or assembly runs on thirty parts (ten parts, three times each) before and after adjustments or repairs to automatic gauges; records measurements.
  • Assists with inspection, trouble shooting, dimensional checks on production runs.
  • Sets up and operates optical comparator, Talysurf/Talyrond, universal measuring machine (Mahr), MWA160, Contracer, etc. to verify dimension of parts against blueprint specifications.
    • Enters identifying data into computer.
    • Secures part and equipment; compares blueprint to specifications and calculations on computer monitor and records results.
  • Maintains records on calibration schedule, location and movement of all gauges, indicators and micrometers, and all completed calibration and repairs, both manually and on computer.
  • Maintains set-up, calibration, and gauge repair logbooks.
  • Browses Cribware data base to track purchase parts, tooling, etc.
  • May issue purchase orders to requisite tooling and gauges.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED

Experience/Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years manufacturing experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • High competency with process improvement
  • Computer skills
  • Ability to work alone or in team environment
