CONNECTION TO MISSION: New arrivals to the United States receive Cultural Orientation (CO) to connect them to their new community and teach them skills to thrive and achieve self-sufficiency. TIME COMMITMENT: 8 10 hours per week (3 month minimum, 3+ months preferred) POSITION DESCRIPTION:Help teach Cultural Orientation (CO) to newly arrived refugees Create new lesson plans and training to incorporate into CO Help organize CO logistics such as: booking interpreters and ensuring class time does not interfere with other resettlement activities clients may have Provide follow up for individuals needing more assistance after orientation class Identify which subjects that clients need more training on and implement training opportunities that will be available for clients Qualifications RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:Be reliable and on time or early with materials prepared if requested.Be flexible. Last-minute changes are expected when working with clients.Review the IRC Intern Agreement and conduct yourself accordingly at all times.Remember that the IRC in Richmond is a professional office. Business casual attire is appropriate.Report your Internship hours each month via the IRC Community Portal.REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:Interest in working with newcomers to the U.S. from a variety of cultures and backgroundsApplicant should be independent and organized.Must live local in/near Richmond, Virginia, USA.Please note this is an unpaid internship.
