The Riverside Community Criminal Justice Board (CCJB) is seeking a long-term intern to assist the Board in successfully implementing its Strategic Plan.
CCJB is comprised of members from the local judiciary and communities of the three participating jurisdictions: Hopewell, Prince George, and Surry. CCJB is committed to promoting programs and policies that provide more effective protection of society, promoting efficiency and economy in the delivery of correctional services, providing increased opportunity for restitution to victims of crime, providing local community-based probation services to meet the rehabilitative needs of offenders, and promoting policies that reduce recidivism.
The Strategic Plan Intern will be charged with the following responsibilities:
* Assist the Riverside Community Criminal Justice Board (CCJB) in improving the public's knowledge and perception of the Criminal Justice System.
* Provide up-to-date materials on services, resources, and information related to the criminal justice system.
* Assist and advise the localities in identifying evidence-based practices that are cost effective and cost efficient to provide an accessible and responsive judicial system that addresses the criminal justice issues/trends in our communities to ensure public safety.
* Assist in the development of innovative crime prevention programs and public safety initiatives.
* Review current practices within the criminal justice system for their effectiveness and offer suggestions for Strategic Plan.
* Improve and expand the collection and dissemination of pertinent information within the criminal justice system to address and combat substance abuse and other issues in our communities that impact crime and recidivism rates.
Qualification Requirements
The ideal candidate will bring the following skills and experience to this position:
* Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Strong problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to both formulate and implement effective solutions to problems.
* High level of proactivity, with a track record of consistently taking initiative to identify and meet needs.
* Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Commitment to attend quarterly CCJB meeting dates for FY22.
Special Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
* Graduate-level student (preferred) studying criminal justice, political science, human services, or similar coursework.
* Student committed to working with CCJB for the 2021-2022 school year.
This position is unpaid. Internship credit granted with approval from college/university faculty member. Selected candidate will be working closely with city and county leaders to effectively develop and implement our strategic plan over the next year.
