Job Summary

Use your skills and passion for positive change! This unique position within PPLs Development & External Affairs Department blends grant writing and administration on behalf of our Grants program. Get hands-on experience in these areas and build your professional network while earning a wage.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in fields related to professional writing, fundraising, nonprofit management, data/evaluation, and social justice. The selected candidate will gain practical experience in database administration and grant writingin a large multi-service nonprofit setting while supporting the work of an organization with a robust racial equity lens and framework. This internship provides training, guidance, and mentoring from experienced professionals and Career development experiences through training workshops, team meetings, and events.

The selected intern will work 10-20 hours per week through December 2021.This is a temporary part-time non-benefit-eligible position.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and submit grant requests and reports with support and draft grant acknowledgment letters when needed.
  • Support grants team in proposal submissions, such as editing proposals, organizing attachments, and reviewing grant packages.
  • Collaborate with staff on the Development & External Affairs team and across the organization to develop grant applications and reports.
  • Organize grant writing resources and files.
  • Conduct grant prospect research.
  • Work directly in Raisers Edge (a widely used contact management database used at PPL) to assist with grant data entry.
  • Participate in staff meetings, team meetings, and planning meetings with program staff, including conversations to advance race equity.
  • Additional duties as assigned to support the Development & External Affairs team and further the PPL mission.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Demonstrated commitment to race equity and mission-driven work.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, ability to write clearly and persuasively.
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter and self-directed with the ability to work independently on assigned projects.
  • Experience with data entry and/or databases.

Wage: $16.00/hr.


Temporary remote work environment available during the Summer through fall 2021, with some flexibility thereafter (PPLs Administrative Center is located at 1035 E. Franklin Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55404)
