If this describes you, you may be the right candidate for the Student Intern - MRI-based 3d Modeling position with the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. Position Highlights: Under direction of the Principal Investigator or his/her designee and in collaboration with other members of the research team, the Intern will process imaging data and create 3d models based on MRI images of the human hip under an established research design. . The intern will then use programming/scripting (Matlab and/or Python) techniques to analyze the resulting 3d models. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. Position Responsibilities: * Creates 3d Models based on MRI using commercially available software for Segmentation (experience with Materialise Mimics preferred) * Writes own routines in Python/Matlab to automate the segmentation process and to analyze the resulting models. * Enters study-related data into computer databases. * Maintains and submits primary and summary documentation of laboratory work to principal investigator or designee. * Discusses problems with testing or research design with supervisor. * Attends relevant meetings of the research team. * Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator or designee. Required Position Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Bioengineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Electronics Engineering/ Medical Physics required with a focus/career interests on/in imaging and/or biomechanics * Imaging experience preferred * Working knowledge with MRI preferred * Programing experience with Matlab and/or Python strongly preferred * College course work in image processing, principles of magnetic resonance imaging, biomechanics, anatomy, programming, or related science; coursework must have included some laboratory components. * Demonstrated effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. * Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. * Demonstrated ability to multi-task, remain flexible, and manage time effectively. * Ability to perform procedures requiring manual dexterity and repetitive motions. * Analytical skills required to write scientific reports. * Proficiency with personal computers including Microsoft Office. Preferred Position Qualifications: This position could be a good fit for current medical students in good standing with their program or recent engineering/science bachelor graduates looking to go on a research gap year.
