The Defense Group of Leidos is seeking a Junior Program Manager with an expertise in Chemical Engineering to work out of our Picatinny Arsenal New Jersey location. This position reports directly to the Program Manager and the candidate will support management of technical and programmatic aspects of energetic materials and munitions R&D contracts. This position is ideal if you are a scientist wanting to expand your skills to include program management.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction and manage personnel executing multiple programs

  • Responsible for guiding, planning, organizing, securing and managing resources to bring about successful completion of specific program goals and objectives

  • Serve as a technical lead and interface with task and functional leaders, subcontractors, and support personnel.

  • Set up processes in line with program management best practices to ensure flawless contract execution

  • Identify and pursue new contracts and growth opportunities. Prepare and submit milestone deliverables and contractually required reporting in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Develop relationships with customers and serve as a focal point for technical communications.

  • Prepare budgets and resource allocations for programs and track costs vs plan to ensure program execution at budget.

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a minimum of BA/BS (chemistry/chemical engineering) and 5+ years' experience managing R&D programs.

  • Demonstrated understanding of R&D aimed at programmatic aspects of energetic materials and munitions.

  • Knowledge and experience with one or more of the following areas - Computation, Synthesis, Scale up, Process Engineering and Development of novel materials .

  • Knowledge and experience with DoD contract execution and management.

  • US citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

  • R&D experience in the development and characterization of new materials for specific applications.

  • Advanced degree highly preferred.

  • People and project management experience.
