Leidos Military and Veterans Health Solutions group is seeking candidates for Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach (SCC) to support brigade-based Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) Human Performance Teams that are focused on optimizing Soldier readiness and performance within the Army’s new H2F System by developing, coordinating, executing, and managing individualized strength and conditioning programs focused on unit mission and individual Soldier tasks. The SCC will serves as the BDE Lead SCC and principle advisor to the BDE Program Director (PD) on physical performance optimization. Coaches and mentors the BDE SCCs, unit fitness leaders, and Master Fitness Trainers (MFTs).

**This position is contingent upon Leidos being awarded H2F program contract.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develops, coordinates, executes, and manages evidence-based strength and conditioning programs focused on unit mission and individual Soldier tasks in accordance with FM 7-22 Holistic Health and Fitness and synchronized with unit training and operational schedules.
  • Coordinates and assists both the unit and unit medical providers to develop, coordinate, and execute approved training programs for Soldiers with physical limitations.
  • Provides recommendations and approved instruction and guidance to Soldiers and unit leadership on physical injury control in coordination with the unit and H2F Performance Team.
  • Participate in program quality assurance of the training programs per guiding instructions provided by the BDE PD to ensure training programs are aligned with industry standards.
  • Track and document Soldier/unit progression on a regular basis and recommend opportunities for H2F Program improvement to the Government.
  • Ensure safe and effective operation of equipment used within their work capacity which contributes to a safe working environment. Where deficiencies exist regarding SCC supplies, equipment utilization and needs, bring to the attention of the BDE PD.
  • Coordinate scheduling of facilities for Government approved courses, training, and classes as applicable.
  • Develop lines of communication within the BDE and BN leadership and participate in associated training and other meetings.
  • Coordinate, execute, and manage approved physical performance optimization programs within the framework of the unit’s training/operational schedule, battle rhythm, and culture.
  • Develop and recommend evidence-based, periodized strength and conditioning programs focused on unit mission and individual Soldier tasks IAW H2F that are synchronized and integrated with unit training/operational schedule, battle rhythm, and culture and implement upon Government approval.
  • As required, submit recommended strength and conditioning programs, with quantified training loads, to the BDE PD for approval and implement upon Government approval.
  • Track Soldier/unit progression and provide data to the BDE PD as required and include a standardized BDE monthly rollup as part of the TOSR. Format to be coordinated with the COR-RA.
  • Coordinate and assist the BDE PD and/or the Injury Control Director to develop, coordinate, and execute approved training programs for Soldiers with physical limitations that are medically cleared for strength and conditioning training/reconditioning.
  • Coordinate with BDE PD to ensure all strength and conditioning education and services are synchronized and integrated with approved education and services provided by H2F Performance Team.
  • Provide recommended and approved instruction and guidance to Soldiers and the BDE leadership on physical strength and conditioning and injury prevention in coordination with the H2F Performance Team.
  • Identify and direct Soldiers with an apparent new or undiagnosed medical condition to the appropriate medical professionals for evaluation and treatment.
  • Ensure documentation and reporting of data IAW guiding instructions provided by the BDE PD.
  • As required, participate (virtual or in-person) in H2F Program reviews to identify best practices and lessons learned throughout the H2F program and recommend opportunities for improvement.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with graduation from a college or university in an accredited exercise science, health science, or physical education-related discipline.
  • A passing score from the Board of Certification (BOC) by the NSCA as a CSCS or by the CSCCA as a SCCC.
  • Local and long distance travel may be required to perform services.
  • Certifications in Basic Life Support and automated external defibrillators (AED).
  • Have two years of relevant SCC work experience within the last five years. Relevant experience is defined as developing and executing task and environment specific functional injury control and health/well-being programs for groups of athletes or DoD/Department of Homeland Security/Department of Justice entities focused on a common sport or mission performance goal. Employment related to internships or graduate work is not considered as relevant experience.
  • Have U.S. Citizenship (copy of birth certificate or naturalization papers required).
  • Have the ability to read, write, and speak English and effectively communicate with Soldiers, staff and other SCCs.
  • Demonstrate sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that they can relate to a variety of Soldiers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Have the ability to operate a personal or Government computer using Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel. SCCs will navigate and operate with unit SharePoint sites.
  • Ability to function as an integrated member of a Brigade-based multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of emerging best practices within the health and fitness industry.
  • Physically able to hike in an austere environment and terrain (e.g., rocky, no running water, no shelter, no bathroom, no climate control, inclement weather, loud, smoky, etc.) while carrying their own backpack with necessary supplies on occasion (<20% of the time).
  • Be physically able to lift and manipulate loads and weight plates up to 45 pounds.
