POSITION: Communications Specialist - Developmental
Position requires a current Full Scope Poly clearance
Developmental Communication Specialists support production of communication activities that align workforce knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors with organizational goals. This work is located at the directorate, mission center, and office level. This position, under direct supervision, may be responsible for managing digital content, developing written content, and organizing events. Relevant subject matter is low to moderately complex.
Short Summary
Developmental Communication Specialists apply production and organizational skills to help deliver products and events that advance workforce communication goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Education: Bachelor's degree in any field (degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or public relations preferred), or
* High school diploma or GED plus five (5) years general work experience, or
* Service in the US Armed Forces with an honorable discharge
Ability to obtain and apply:
* One (1) year of relevant or comparable experience
* Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills
* Strong written communication skills
* Ability to research and draft original content for a variety of channels and audiences
* Strong organizational and time management skills
* Ability to implement quantitative and qualitative evaluation tools
* Ability to apply analysis of performance metrics and evaluation data to products
* Ability to learn web content management systems
* Familiarity with Photoshop; ability to crop and size images and adjust color
* Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint and Excel
* Ability to obtain a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Visio
* Ability to use digital channels including live chats, blogs, and microblogs
* Experience organizing small events
* Ability to work in a matrixed environment
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Know Audience
o Build audience insight using appropriate tools to monitor content and listen to conversations on key channels including social media
o Understand the range of employee insight sources (both quantitative and qualitative) available within the organization
o Be familiar with insight on staff communication usage, needs, and preferences
o Understand the overall context for communication
Evaluation & Measurement
o Implement evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness and impact of communication
o Monitor and summarize communications activities, including digital communications
o Support the implementation of feedback mechanisms (quantitative and qualitative) that measure employee engagement and effectiveness of internal communication
o Review existing sources of insight (including previous communication activity) to understand the overall context for communication and audience influencers
o Use insight to identify target audiences and partners, support decision making and help inform the overall communication approach
o Provide key metrics to the Sponsor's Office of Public Affairs
Generate Content
o Write clearly in plain, simple, clear, concise, accurate language and check work for spelling and grammar
o Express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing
o Draft engaging, targeted content and messages suitable for use across a range of channels
o Support the delivery of online events including live chats, broadcasts, blogs, and microblogs
o Assist with the management of website content
o Produce digital newsletters
o Have a practical understanding of organizational functions, roles, and communication requirements to enable the design of tailored content
o Select appropriate visuals to improve the impact of communication (for example, photography and infographics)
o Create content that meets accessibility and usability requirements
o Assist with the organization of staff events that support communication objectives; may include tasks related to logistics and content
o Deliver corporate messages to local audience in appropriately tailored manner
