Memorial Blood Centers (MBC.ORG), a division of Innovative Blood Resources (www.innovativebloodresources.org), has been saving and sustaining lives since 1948. We supply blood and blood components, state-of-the-art laboratory services, and biomedical expertise to area healthcare partners, national blood centers, biotechnology companies, research institutions, and international clients. Operating 10 donor centers and conducting hundreds of blood drives each month, we are proud to be an independent nonprofit that supplies over 30 area hospitals and more than a dozen air ambulances with life-saving blood-from our community, for our community.

Responsibilities

Summary:

This position is responsible for coordinating with the NYBCe Manager of Education/Training of the IRL/Genomics Labs for planning, organizing and implementation of educational activities provided by specific NYBCe divisions & throughout NYBCe. In addition to these duties, the position must perform all duties of an IRL or Genomics Staff Technologist II or above.

Job Responsibilities:

    Coordinates the organization, planning, implementation, and execution of educational activities in the IRL and/or genomics lab, including scheduling, preparation of samples and materials, orientation of instructors, and encouragement of staff participation.
  • Coordinate with the NYBCe Manager of Education/Training of the IRL/Genomics Labs to develop and maintain educational programs for community education and continuing education, across NYBCe divisions, including programs for: residents, fellows, MLS students, etc.
  • Provides (or delegates) tours of the blood center to educational visitors (MLS students, residents, fellows, etc)
  • Communicates with staff members, customers, and attendees of NYBCe educational programs in a clear, concise, appropriate, and resourceful manner.
  • Supports initiatives to advertise NYBCe educational programs, both internally and externally.
  • Participates in NYBCe educational programs as a speaker and supports other staff members doing the same.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing with both internal and external customers.
  • Exemplifies NYBCe's Customer Service Mission and Core Values.
  • Perform functions of IRL or Genomics Technologist II or above.
  • Duties are split between IRL/Genomics Education Specialist and IRL or Genomics Technologist II or above
    • Approximately 50% IRL/Genomics Education Specialist
    • Approximately 50% IRL or Genomics Technologist II or above

Secondary Functions:

  • Creates and maintains the schedule of educational visitors to NYBCe divisions
  • Maintains accurate records of education provided by IRLs/genomics labs.
  • Participates in the creation of new educational programs and continual improvement of existing educational programs, including analyzing results of program evaluations.
  • Assists other NYBCe IRL/genomics staff in fulfilling their roles in educational activities.

Qualifications

Experience:

Must be a Genomics or IRL Tech II or above.

Minimum of 2 years of genomics or IRL technical laboratory experience.

Minimum of 2 years working experience with adult learners, such as (but not limited to) in the lab, in an academic setting, tutoring, giving lectures or presenting in and/or organizing professional conferences.

Other:

Graduate course work in education preferred
