How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:

As a Rail Operations Clerk, you are responsible to provide assistance to the Rail Maintenance Department by performing administrative support and clerical duties pertaining to trains, vehicles and employees. In addition, the incumbent will provide assistance to employees regarding forms, policies and procedures, liaison, general company and department functions.


Recruitment Type: Internal / External Competitive. This posting will establish a (6) month eligibility pool for 2024 current and future openings.
What you would do in this job

  • Develop work orders and enter completed work orders on the Maintenance Database Applications
  • Maintain performance and personnel records, daily employee attendance records and payroll records
  • Organize and maintain rail equipment files on service history of the computer
  • Keep daily summary of all service calls
  • Type memos, reports and perform data entry
  • Monitor work completed for accuracy
  • Prepare reports
  • Perform general office duties and maintain office supplies
  • Perform other duties and reports as assigned by the supervisor
What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two Years of administrative/secretarial experience.
  • Two years intermediate PC experience to include word processing, spreadsheet and electronic calendar.
What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):
  • Experience creating correspondence, letters and memos in proper business style format and experience with creating and maintaining files.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and support an equitable, positive, and respectful work environment that values cultural diversity among all employees
What knowledge, skills, and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job:
  • Knowledge of office administrative procedures.
  • Knowledge of creating correspondence, letters and memos in proper business style format.

  • Knowledge of creating and maintaining electronic files.

  • PC skills including MS Office - Outlook, Word, Access and Excel.

  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities and work independently.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with efficiency and take initiative.

  • Ability to work well with others.
