Job Description

University of Minnesota Physicians is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Solid Organ Transplant team in Minneapolis, MN. The University of Minnesota is home to one of the oldest and most successful solid-organ transplant programs in the world.

In this role, you will:

  • Care directly for specialty patients in the inpatient setting.
  • In collaboration with the attending physician and interdisciplinary team, formulate and implement treatment plans.
  • Provide medical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Coordinate and facilitate the delivery of care to patients and families within a multidisciplinary framework on an inpatient basis.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures within their scope and realm of their practice agreement with their supervising physician.

Schedule:

  • 3 x (10) hour days with a weekend rotation every 6-7 weeks.
  • 0.75 FTE (30 hours/week).
  • Monday - Friday, three 10-hour shifts per week with staggered start times.
  • Weekend shifts are required, approximately every 6th-7th weekend. 7-9 weekends per year. Will receive equivalent time off the following week after working a weekend. No night call.

Position Qualifications:

A qualified candidate will be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and formal Adult, Adult/Gero, Acute Care, or FNP Nurse Practitioner training program or a graduate of an accredited Physician's Assistant program. Have a current MN RN license and be approved or eligible by the Minnesota Board of Nursing for prescription writing privileges or a current PA license with prescriptive authority through the MN Board of Medical Practice. Be certified through ANCC/AANP or eligible for ANCC/AANP national exam or through the NCCPA and meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges.

Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of 1 year experience as an inpatient PA or NP in Transplant Medicine or Surgery preferred. New graduates with hospital experience will be considered.

  • Experience as a NP or PA in an advanced specialty working in a direct patient care role that uses advanced practice skills.
  • Experience in nephrology and/or transplant as a nurse, NP or PA.
