System Engineer

Immediate opening! Due to an internal promotion, Dakota Electric Association (DEA), a growing customer-owned electric cooperative located in the southern part of the Twin Cities in Farmington, Minnesota, has a full-time engineering position available. We are seeking a degreed engineer looking to use their knowledge in the dynamic world of electrical distribution engineering. New or spring 2013 graduates of ABET accredited engineering schools encouraged to apply.

Primary responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing the performance of the electrical distribution system, which includes reliability analysis and investigation of outages. Other functions include asset management, management of the distribution system material specifications and construction standards, equipment failure analysis and support of field activities. The System Engineer supports operational issues and performs engineering studies as required. Duties also include review and approval of construction documents relating to modifications to the distribution system.

The position provides a wide variety of experiences and hands-on application of your engineering skills. Daily interaction with field crews, supervisors, vendors, manufacturers and consultants is part of this position. Working with our new state of the art geographical information system (GIS) and engineering modeling systems to provide creative solutions is a requirement of this position.

This position requires a four-year degree in Electrical Engineering. Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification preferred and the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license after meeting the experience requirements expected.
